Hydrogen is a flexible and potentially a zero-carbon emission energy carrier, with the highest gravimetric energy density and infinite abundance. Hydrogen possesses a series of optimal features that makes it a viable candidate to be the “fuel of the future”, enabling the integration of different energy systems. In particular, recent researches and technological scenarios suggest that the use of hydrogen would enhance the flexibility of power systems and facilitate the integration of increasing shares of variable renewable energy into the power system.

The objective of this symposium is to provide an overview of the current trends related to the application of hydrogen on a large scale in the national and international energy scenario. In such context, particular relevance to recent initiatives implemented by institutions and local authorities in the planning and set-up of future hydrogen-related facilities will be given.
